In our highly polarized us-versus-them, left-versus-right political season, Scot McKnight calls Christians to not lose sight of the true alternative. True to Anabaptist thought, there is never only two options — there is always a third way. The third way here is not simply a third party candidate, for that would only be extending the political power game to us-versus-them-versus-them, but rather it is an entirely different mode of engaging the world. When we try to save the world through our political system, McKnight suggests, we sacrifice our commitment to the kingdom way of life and become corrupted by the system at the same time.
“The alternative is not Left vs. Right, but Left-Right Powermonger vs. kingdom politics embodied in gospel living and church living.”
